Tatjana Van Vark's Industrial Art Curiosities

Tatjana Van Vark makes anachronistic tech art, which defies an easy description. These are gorgeous intricate contraptions, full of wheels within wheels - a clockwork paradise. Check out her Coding Machine (similar to Enigma)

The Free Pendulum Timekeeper:

The other incredible part of her site is Navigation and Bombing System NBS installation
(used in British V-bombers Victor, Vulcan and Valiant)

See more here. She also makes incredible working replica's of historic arithmetic and mechanic/electronic instruments.

Totalitarian Architecture "Masterpiece" by Romanian Dictator

So called "Casa Poporului" (The House of the People) built by Ceausescu in 1989 - is the second largest building in the world (after Pentagon) and the largest in Europe. It has 330,000 sq. meters of space (including four underground floors and bunkers) The interior ornamentation is top-notch and incredibly luxurious. (source Budyon)

And the wide, straight avenue leading to it: named "The Victory of Socialism" - built under orders to be wider and longer than Champs d'Elysee in Paris.

And here's a very interesting comparison, provided by Mike Homola:
